Soraya

Soraya, an original member of the Professional Performing Company since 2002, has been studying dance on and off since she was 3 when she began taking ballet lessons.  She became interested in and began taking belly dance lessons in 1995 in the DFW area. Soon after, she joined Isis and the Star Dancers and found a home here. Soraya was awarded "Unbelievable Incognito" in 2002 and "Slow Dancing" in 2001 at Scarborough Faire. She has also won 1st and 2nd place for duets and trios performed at the Santa Cops Vaudevillian Extravaganza Fundraisers in Arlington, Tx.

Soraya likes to use a mixture of styles, depending on the music, to emphasize the emotion and power of dance and to connect with the audience. Her specialties include detailed, slow, graceful and fluid movements; belly flutters, rolls and isolations; hip slides; shimmies; candles and sword. Her best dancing is improvised with an enthusiastic crowd and live music. She particularly loves this form of dance because it enables her to be creative and commanding, yet feminine at the same time. Through dance, she encourages women of all ages and sizes to find their power and beauty.
