YHY Belly Dance Star Competition
Policies & Procedures
1.
Eligibility:
a.
Anyone can
compete in the YHY Belly Dance Star (YHYBDS) Competition. Those under the age of
18 must have parental consent.
b.
All contestants
must be able to participate in the YHYBDS Competition in its entirety. Potential
participants need to be prepared to stay in the Dallas/Fort Worth area through
Saturday night.
c.
REMEMBER: this is
a belly dancing competition so you must belly dance during some portion of the
routine. Everyone must dance during some portion of the routine. You may have
musicians, but they must participate in Choreography.
d.
All Winners will
re-enact their original winning routine in the same costumes FOR THE SATURDAY
EVENING SHOW OF STARS, AUGUST 15, 2015.
e.
All participants
who are minors must be accompanied at all times by a Parent or Legal Guardian.
f.
Isis Productions,
in its sole and absolute discretion, reserves the right to refuse the
registration of any individual or act for any reason or for no reason at all.
2.
Clothing & Costumes:
a.
We are billed as
Family Entertainment -- Please wear appropriate costuming.
We are performing on a 3 - 4 foot high stage, so please dress
accordingly. The front rows of the
audience will be seated where they will be able to see up a full skirt (and some
straight skirts with high slits). (See Eligibility section item f.)
b.
Crotch shots are
not acceptable. We do not wish to
offend the families and area dignitaries who attend our shows.
Look wonderful, but classy!!!
c.
Male performers
MUST wear athletic/dance supporters.
d.
Thong underwear
is NOT acceptable if your buttocks have any possibility of being exposed to the
audience during a spin.
e.
Inappropriate
costuming will cause you to be disqualified if you are competing in the YHYBDS
Competition.
f.
Cover-ups must be
worn when not performing and in view of the audience, unless having changed into
street clothes.
3.
Contestant Conduct:
a.
Contestants will
conduct themselves at all times in a positive and professional manner.
Isis Productions reserves the right to
disqualify any contestant whose behavior is intrusive or disruptive to other
contestants or the audience.
b.
Our shows are
FAMILY FRIENDLY, which means we do not allow nudity, sexually suggestive,
culturally offensive or violent performances, nor do we accept music with
explicit lyrics. If you would be
even slightly hesitant at performing your piece in front of a bunch of third
graders, then please find a different piece to perform.
c.
Our venue, the
Grapevine Convention Center, allows NO FIRE, NO LIVE ANIMALS of any kind, NO
BREAKABLE PROPS. NO GLITTER,
CONFETTI, FOAM STRING, RICE, ROSE PETALS, BIRDSEED, etc., are to be used inside
or outside the venue.
A minimum clean-up charge of $250.00
will be charged if any violation of this rule occurs.
d.
Alcohol and
non-prescription drug use is strictly forbidden and may be cause for immediate
dismissal from Yaa Halla, Y’all.
e.
NOTE:
Videography is NOT allowed at any time during Yaa Halla, Y’all.
Any and all photo recording devices (including cell phones) are
strictly prohibited in workshops or at shows.
Violators will be asked to leave the building.
f.
Contestants agree
to abide by all rules & procedures and accept the voting results as final.
4.
Registration Procedures:
a.
Performer
Registrations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. All YHYBDSC
participants must attend a full day of workshops for each category
of competition. It is best that a
Seminar Registration and full payment accompany the Performer Registration to
guarantee and hold a spot. If a
full day seminar is put in layaway, final and full payment must be received by
August 1, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. Performer
Registration will close July 1, 2015, at 11:59 p.m.
b.
Performer
Registrations must be received by July 1, 2015, and must be accompanied by a
Seminar Registration with payment. (must be transmitted or postmarked on or
before July 1, 2015). Returned
checks will be assessed a $35.00 fee.
c.
Performer
Registration is on a first-come, first-served, basis. If you do not receive a
time to perform due to the category being full, you will be placed on a waiting
list.
d.
No Performer
Registrations will be taken at the door.
Pre-registration is required.
e.
Absolutely no
substitutions. You cannot sell your
competition performance spot to another.
f.
Your performance
day and time is not confirmed until you have received a conformation email from
us. YHYBDSC is not responsible for
incorrect email.
PRINT CLEARLY!! This is vital in order to receive your confirmation by
email.
g.
SIGNED PERFORMER
REGISTRATION, SEMINAR REGISTRATION AND CHECK MUST BE SENT TOGETHER AT THE SAME
TIME OR A PARTICIPATION SPOT IN THE YHYBDSC WILL NOT BE HONORED.
ONLINE REGISTRATIONS ARE PAID WITH CREDIT CARDS ONLY.
Returned checks will be assessed a $35.00 fee.
h.
No refunds or
transfer of registration fees are allowed.
i.
ALL PERFORMER
REGISTRATIONS SENT BY US MAIL MUST BE PAID WITH A CHECK, CREDIT CARD OR MONEY
ORDER IN U.S. FUNDS MADE PAYABLE TO ISIS PRODUCTIONS.
j.
Detailed packet
with important Performer Information will follow performer’s registration VIA
EMAIL ONLY. No packets will be sent
via US mail.
k.

l.
By signing the
YHYBDS Performer Registration, you agree that Isis Productions may use your
photo in our future promotional work, including but not limited to, ads,
postcards, video, etc.
5.
Thursday, Friday & Saturday
(If there is a competition that evening)
Competition Procedures:
a.
All performers
need to be signed in at the Dancer Check-in Table by 5:00 p.m. and back stage by
6:00 p.m. for the first show. If you are competing in the second show you MUST
be back stage before the end of intermission between the first and second show.
PLEASE once a show has started
DO NOT enter the back stage area
from the auditorium!! This is very distracting for the audience and those
already performing on stage. Instead go
through the kitchen area.
b.
If you do not check-in on time, you
forfeit your spot. NO EXCEPTIONS
c.
Due to the many
requests to dance and limited time slots, if you are both a solo dancer and a
member of a troupe on the same night of competition, you must be prepared for a
fast change. There are dressing
rooms available backstage for quick costume changes.
d.
Choreography,
including entrances and exits, all
Pro Solos and
Duets/Trios will be no longer than
five (5) minutes.
Rising Star will be no longer than
four (4) minutes.
Troupes (4 or more) will be no
longer than seven (7) minutes.
Time starts the second you step on stage
or when your music starts (whichever
comes first)!!
If you go over the time limit,
your music will be faded out and you will exit the stage.
You will also be immediately
disqualified! If your music is
notably less then the time allowed, please let us know, as it gives us a chance
to allow more performers in each show.
Especially the Star Instructors!
e.
You must email a
Digital Version of your music to us
at YaaHallamusic@gmail.com no later
than July 26, 2015.
Acceptable file formats are MP3,
MPEG-4 Audio, and Wave. We will use this time to verify that your music file
is good and not corrupted. IF
FOR ANY REASON you need to change the music you have already sent to us,
please CALL US ASAP at
817-282-6172!!
Label your music file with
your dance name or troupe name.
As a backup measure, please bring a Flash-Drive that has your song on it
AND a CD (with ONLY your song on it) to the event.
Please DO NOT ask us to download a new
version at the event from your cell phone!! You may pick up your music after
the show is over, unless you are a
WINNER and thus performing in the
Saturday Gala Show.
Please, then, pick up your music after your Gala Show performance and
preferably during an intermission or at the end of the evening.
f.
Every performer
must enter AND exit the stage via
the backstage stairs.
g.
Stage dimensions
are 30ft. x 25ft. and 3.5 feet off the ground.
The ceiling is 11.5 ft. tall
h.
The entire dance
must be performed on the stage. Dancing
on the floor is an automatic disqualification.
i.
Winners will be
selected separately by audience ballots and a panel of esteemed Judges.
j.
All decisions by
the tally Judges are final.
6.
Prizes:
a.
First Place
Judge's Winner: Trophy and numerous
prizes and performing in the
Saturday Gala Show
b.
People's Choice
First Place winner: Trophy and performing
in the Saturday Gala Show
c.
Second Place
Winner: Trophy
d.
Third Place
Winner: Trophy
(only applies when there are enough entries for the category)
e.
Fourth Place
Winner: Trophy
(only applies when there are enough entries for the category
7.
Awards:
a.
Thursday and
Friday night competition winners will be announced at the end of that evening's
shows.
b.
Saturday night
competition winners,
if there is a competition that evening,
will be announced at the close of the first show that evening.
