Karen Barbee - Sunday - 11:30 am - 1:30 pm - Galaxy Room - Managing Your Musical Seams’  - Verse - then refrain, call – then response, vocals – then instrumentals, qanun playing a melody – then the full orchestra playing the same melody, abrupt stops, fading notes; ALL of these happen in our music as it progresses from start to finish and as it moves from one section to the next. These “seams” provide a HUGE opportunity to create interest - to highlight or diminish focus. In this workshop, we will stretch our ability to use this ever-present musical opportunity as a valuable tool for both choreography and improvisation.

Helena Vlahos - Sunday -  2:00 pm - 4:00 pm - Galaxy Room - The Sensual Chiftetelli (with Arm & Hand Movements to Compliment Each Dance Move)’  - Chiftetelli is often the first rhythm belly dancers learn to recognize, yet it holds its magnetic charm through our entire dance careers! The intricate rhythm starts to feel natural, freeing the dancer to become creative and explore new movements and different connections to the music. Helena having danced to the Chiftetelli countless times, will open the doors to the multitudes of possibilities for creative musical interpretation within this rich, and multi-layered rhythm, bringing new life and classic beauty to your belly dance. Arm & Hand Movements will be emphasized to enhance the beautiful, sensual Undulations, Figure-8's, Hip-Circles and all the movements that are used to create a memorable Chiftetelli.
